The life and times of the players at Essendon Football Club in the era of the 1962 and 1965 Premiership years.
Foreword by Kevin Sheedy
Interviews with Players of the 1962 & 1965 premierships recounting untold stories and images from personal collections.
The book is essentially about the life and times of the players at Essendon Football Club in the era of the 1962 and 1965 Premiership years.
We saw the need to write about these idols of our young lives. Advancing years and the dearth of media coverage of the times especially television, franked our idea to extol the lives and on-field skills of these marvellous footballers. Along with their legendary Coach, John Coleman, their stories are now told and available for all football followers to read and enjoy.
We are unabashed Essendon tragics. Many phone calls have been made during our working lives about things like, what number did so-and-so wear when first at Essendon? Give me your best Essendon team of left footers, within the next twenty four hours!! Or our best Essendon team of players to play less than one hundred games at Essendon? Even, who played the most games at Essendon in the number eight guernsey? Still goes on to this day!
We like to think we are reasonably knowledgeable regarding Essendon, but we have learnt so much more after interviewing these wonderful men and, in the cases of those who have passed on, their families.
We would hope that more successful eras are ahead and that other such stories of potential legends of this great football club that is Essendon, can be told by similar fans as we are.
